Prokopé is iPad application developed in collaboration with the Classics Department of Grand Valley State University that targets intermediate Latin readers. The app allows readers to interact with a Latin text, along with associated commentary, vocabulary, multimedia, and related links. Prokopé has several advantages over a printed text. First, professors can upload new documents and related commentary to a server at any time. Users will see the uploaded texts the next time they use the app. Second, users can interact with a text at several points: They can click on individual words to display the corresponding commentaries and vocabulary; they can click on related multimedia to take a closer look at an image, or play a video; and they can follow related links to information found at other locations on the web. Third, the app captures all user interactions and stores them on a server so a professor can scrutinize the activity of a single user, or see aggregate information about how readers use the information presented to them. The ultimate goal is to provide an application that enhances a readers understanding of classical texts.
